Cuando a mediados de 1880, Don Pascual
Toso viajaba hacia Argentina desde Canale D’Alba
Piemonte, Italia, su pueblo natal, quizá no imaginó
que estaba destinado a ser el fundador de una bodega,
que hoy es una de las más antiguas y prestigiosas
del país. Al llegar a Argentina, eligió
Mendoza como lugar de residencia y se dedicó
al comercio de importación, pero por haber nacido
y crecido en una zona vitivinícola y haberse
dedicado a ella como tradición familiar en Piemonte,
apreció de inmediato la calidad excepcional de
los caldos que se producían aquí y su
enorme porvenir. Es por ello que inició sus actividades
instalando su primera bodega en San José, Guaymallén,
en 1890. A principios de siglo, con gran visión,
decidió extender sus viñedos a Maipú,
convencido de que esa era la zona de producción
de más alta calidad. Adquirió la finca
de “Las Barrancas”, donde también

levantó la bodega.
Siguiendo con el perfil de mejoras en el año
2001 contrataron a Paul Hobbs, quien desde entonces
está llevando a cabo un proyecto de renovación
y mejora en el estilo de estos vinos. Los primeros resultados
ya se empezaron a ver, con los premios y reconocimientos
obtenidos de la cosecha 2002 y 2003.
In 1880, Mr. Pascual Toso left
his birthplace in Canal D’Alba Piemonte, Italy,
and migrated to Argentina. At that time he probably
could not imagine that he would become the founder of
a winery, which is one the oldest and most prestigious
wineries in Argentina today. As soon as Pascual arrived
in Argentina, he settled in Mendoza and started working
in an import business. However, very soon, he observed
the exceptional quality of the grapes |
in the
region and firmly believed that there was a promising
future for winemaking in Mendoza. As he had been involved
closely with the development of his family wine business
in Piemonte, he decided to do the same in Mendoza. In
1890, he established his first winery in San José,Guaymallén.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the founder
decided to expand the business and acquired vineyards
in Maipú, which he perfectly believed contained
the best quality. At his estate “Las Barrancas”,
he built another winery.
In 2001 the company hired Mr. Paul Hobbs, a very well-known
consultant form California, to increase the quality of
these wines. The first results have already being seen,
with the prizes obtained, starting from crop 2002 and
2003. |
