Goyenechea fue fundada en el año 1868 por los hermanos vascos Santiago y Narciso Goyenechea, quienes hacia 1905 construyeron la bodega y plantaron los primeros viñedos en Villa Atuel (San Rafael). En 1965 ingresó a la empresa la cuarta generación, la argentina, y la actividad se desplazó exclusivamente hacia el vino fino embotellado.

La bodega desarrolló la marca Aberdeen-Angus, para la asociación de criadores de ganado de dicha raza. Al mismo tiempo iniciaron las exportaciones a Estados Unidos y Paraguay, para luego seguir con otros países americanos y europeos. En 1993 la bodega fundó e integró el primer Consejo de Denominación de Origen Controlada (San Rafael) de Argentina y fue la primera bodega americana en exportar un vino con D.O.C.: Chardonnay 1993. Un año más tarde,
terminada la relación con la Asociación Aberdeen-Angus, comenzó a vender exclu-sivamente su propia marca “Goyenechea” en el mercado argentino e internacional.

Finalmente, en 1998 ingresó la quinta generación familiar y la empresa se transformó en Sociedad Anónima. Hoy es una de las bodegas independientes y familiares más antiguas de Argentina.

Goyenechea was founded in 1868 by Santiago and Narciso Goyenechea, Spanish Basque brothers. Towards 1905 the winery was built and the first vineyards were planted in Villa Atuel (San Rafael). In 1965 the fourth generation, now Argentinean, joined the company. At that moment, the activity turned to fine wines. The winery developed the Aberdeen-Angus brand for the association of breeders of this famous line of cattle.
Simultaneously, exports to the United States and Paraguay began, and were followed by others to American and European countries.

In 1993 Goyenechea was one of the founders of the Council of Controlled Denomination of Origin San Rafael, and was the first South American winery to export a D.O.C. “appellation contrôlee” wine, the 1993 Chardonnay. A year later the relationship with Aberdeen-Angus breeders association ceased and the company started to sell exclusively its own brand Goyenechea in the domestic and international markets.

In 1998 the fifth generation of the family entered the company. It became an incorporated company. Today Goyenechea is one of the oldest established, independent, family-owned wineries in Argentina.
