Con unas 22.000 hectáreas
de viñedos, irrigadas por los Ríos Atuel
y Diamente, San Rafael se alza como uno de los departamentos
más importantes de la industria vitivinícola.
Sus bellezas naturales e incipiente turismo han logrado
que este departamento crezca con el correr de los
años. Los viñedos en esta zona se encuentran
dispersos y cuentan en un alto porcentaje con malla
antigranizo debido a que los accidentes climáticos
son frecuentes en esa zona. Además de ser el
territorio más austral de la provincia, es
uno de los más bajos, ya que sus tierras se
ubican entre los 800 y 400 metros sobre el nivel del
mar. Las variedades más destacadas son el Cabernet
Sauvignon, Malbec y Bonarda.

VARIETIES IN SOUTH MENDOZA
With 22,000 hectares of vineyards,
irrigated by rivers Atuel and Diamente, San Rafael
is one of the most important departments in the viticulture
industry. Its natural beauty and growing tourism have
made this department grow with time. The vineyards
in this zone are disperse and have a high percentage
of anti-hail net due to the stormy weather in this
zone. Besides being the southernmost territory in
the province, it is one of the lowest since the lands
are between 800 and 400 meters above sea level. The
best varieties here are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec
and Bonarda.

VISITAR / WHAT TO VISIT
Dique Los Reyunos:
Uno de los más importantes centros de pesca deportiva
de la provincia. Allí se pueden pescar salmónidos
y pejerreyes, los cuales son sembrados artificialmente.
El lugar, al estar rodeado de cerros, es especial para
realizar trekking, cabalgatas y mountain bike. La presa
principal permite el desarrollo de ciertos deportes
acuáticos como son: windsurf y canotaje. Además,
cuenta con buena hotelería.
Dique El Nihuil:
Con unas 9.600 has. el dique El Nihuil conforma un gran
atractivo turístico de colorido sin igual, que
surge del Cañón del Atuel. Permite las
actividades náuticas motor, lo que brinda un
excelente atractivo tanto en verano como en invierno.
La pesca deportiva está permitida.
Valle de Las Leñas:
Ubicado en Malargüe, es uno de los principales
centros de esquí del país. Allí
se desarrollan eventos relacionados a este deporte.
Cuenta con una gran hotelería, que se despliega
a la luz de las resplandecientes montañas en
verano.
Laguna de Llancanelo:
Es una de las reservas naturales de la Provincia, a
las que les que queda pequeño el adjetivo "sublime".
Este reservorio de agua, alimentado por el Río
Malargüe es uno de los principales centros de reproducción
de aves acuáticas del país. Tiene en su
haber más de 40.000 has y 130 especies de aves
migratorias.

Los Reyunos Dam: it is one of the
most important centers for sport fishing in the province.

can be caught. The place, being surrounded by hills,
is special to do trekking, horse-riding and mountain
biking. The main dam allows for the development of certain
water sports such as: windsurf and canoeing. Besides,
there is good accommodation.
El Nihuil Dam: with 9,600 hectares,
El Nihuil dam, represents a unique great tourism attraction
that starts in Atuel Canyon. Water activities and sports
can be done and offers an excellent attraction in summer
as well as in winter. Sport fishing is allowed.
Valle de Las Leñas: located
in Malargüe, it is one of the main ski centers
in Argentina. Events related to this sport are organized
there. It has great hotels, which are displayed near
the mountains.
Llancanelo Lagoon: being one of the
natural reserves in the province, it is sublime. This
water reservoir, fed by Malargüe river is one of
the main reproduction centers of aquatic birds in the
country. It has more than 40,000 has and 130 species
of migratory birds.
