En la década de 1880 tres pioneros de la vitivinicultura argentina se asociaron en una primer bodega; estos fueron Juan Giol, Bautista Gargantini y Pascual Toso; El destino hizo que los propietarios de Bodegas y Viñedos San Polo sean la cuarta generación de descendientes directos de estos grandes precursores.
El bisabuelo de los actuales propietarios, Juan Giol, un gran visionario, percibió el enorme potencial vitivinícola de las tierras altas de San Carlos, y en 1915 le compró la bodega y finca La Esperanza construídas en 1890, a Ricardo Bustos, hijo de Eugenio Bustos, pionero de la conquista del desierto. El Comendador Juan Giol regresó a su Italia natal en la década de 1920, y posteriormente estas tierras fueron heredadas por Humberto Giol, único hijo de Juan que se quedó en el país. Junto a su esposa Eleonora Gargantini, fundaron Bodega y Viñedos San Polo en la década de 1930. El nombre de la bodega de origen véneto, fue en honor al lugar donde Juan fijó su residencia, San Polo di Piave y allí se encuentran el castillo Papadopuls - Giol y la bodega veneciana, que aún, pertenecen a otra

rama de la familia. Humberto y Eleonora incrementaron la superficie de viñedos y capacidad de bodegas en las mejores zonas vitícolas del pedemonte mendocino con el mismo espíritu que habían comenzado sus padres. Esta tarea la continuaron Juan Carlos Giol y Clotilde Toso, los que también dejaron como legado el firme objetivo de trabajar para el engrandecimiento de la vitivinicultura argentina.

In the 1880´s, three pioneers of the Argentine viticulture became partners in a first winery; they were Juan Giol, Bautista Gargantini y Pascual Toso. Destiny made the owners of San Polo Winery and Vineyards to be the fourth generation of direct descendants of those great precursors.
The great-grandfather of the current owners, Juan Giol, a great visionary, perceived the enormous viticulturist potential of the high lands of San Carlos and in 1915 he bought La Esperanza winery and farm, which had been built in 1890, from Ricardo Bustos, son of

 Eugenio Bustos, pioneer of the desert conquest. The commander Juan Giol returned to his birthplace, Italy, in the 1920's, and later those lands were inherited by Humberto Giol, the only son of Juan who remained in the country. Together with his wife, Eleonora Gargantini, he founded San Polo Winery and Vineyards in the 1930s. The name of the winery of Venetian origin, was chosen in honor of the place where Juan decided to reside, San Polo di Piave. There, the Papadopuls - Giol castle and the Venetian winery belonging to another branch of the family are located. Humberto and Eleonora increased the area of the vineyards and the capacity of the wineries in the best grape-growing areas at the foot of the Mendocinian mountains, with the same spirit that their parents had in the beginnings. This activity was continued by Juan Carlos Giol and Clotilde Toso, who also bequeathed us the firm objective of working hard for the enhancement of the Argentine viticulture.
