La Sociedad Viñedos y Bodegas Carlos González Videla S.A. tiene su base productiva en sus dos fincas, Tromel (aproximadamente 500 has. en el departamento de Rivadavia) y Panquegua (aproximadamente 300 has. en el departamento de Las Heras). De estas, la segunda es la más antigua, ya que sus títulos de propiedad se remontan al año 1826, y es verdaderamente simbólica de la evolución vitivinícola y económica de la provincia. Se considera fundador de la empresa a Don Benito González Milleiro quien comenzó a trabajar la propiedad a principios del siglo XIX. La vitivinicultura siempre estuvo presente en el emprendimiento, pero recién a partir de l840 se consideró la actividad principal de la familia. En l856 se construyó el primer edificio destinado exclusivamente a bodega en la finca Panquegua. Esta etapa de la empresa familiar es liderada por Don Carlos González Pinto, hijo de Don Benito, quien alertado sobre la importancia de la calidad de las vides en el producto final, implantó en tierras de Panquegua las primeras cepas de uva Malbec introducidas al país desde Francia, con el asesoramiento del Ing. Pouget. También construyó el segundo cuerpo de bodega en 1896, de características similares a la de 1856 y contrató a Tito Soldati, enólogo egresado de la escuela de Conegliano Italia, para mejorar la calidad enológica de los vinos. La labor de Don Carlos fue continuada por su hijo, Don Carlos González Videla, quien instalado en Mendoza advierte que puede abrirse al mundo, gracias a la llegada del ferrocarril. Aprovechó esta coyuntura histórica e incorporó a su bodega los mejores toneles de roble de Nancy. Trajo también cepajes europeos seleccionados y materiales de construcción importados, con los que agregó a los edificios de su padre dos cuerpos de bodega más, construidos en piedra. De gran belleza arquitectónica, estos albergan las cubas y toneles importados por él, así como el sector de añejamiento en botellas. La búsqueda de calidad de Carlos González Videla se vio reconocida en diversas exposiciones internacionales; sus vinos obtuvieron medallas de oro y Gran Premio en la Exposición de Roma de 1913, Diploma de Honor en la Exposición Internacional de Génova de 1915, Medalla de Oro en San Pablo, en la Exposición Internacional del

Centenario de la Independencia del Brasil de 1927, etc. La actividad fue continuada, con un estilo muy conservador, por su hija Doña Florencia Fanny González y por su yerno don Alfredo Curth. Florencia Curth González de Cavanagh, junto con sus hijos ha sabido continuar la fuerte tradición bodeguera heredada de sus mayores, siendo uno de sus más grandes orgullos el ser propietaria de la bodega más antigua del país, luego de cinco generaciones en manos de la misma familia. Recientemente, Viñedos y Bodegas Carlos González Videla S.A. ha adquirido tanques y barriles de acero inoxidable, así como también tecnología de punta para la producción de vinos tintos de alta calidad.
Los vinos que produce Viñedos y Bodegas Carlos González Videla S.A., tienen su base en los viñedos de la firma, distribuidos entre sus dos fincas, Panquegua (Las Heras) y Tromel (Rivadavia), destinadas a la producción de uvas finas, frutales y olivos.
Viñedos y Bodegas Carlos González Videla S.A. develops its productive activity in two important properties, one is located in Tromel (approximately 500 hectares in the district of Rivadavia, 45 km to the east of Mendoza city) and the other one is located in Panquegua (approximately 300 hectares in the district of Las Heras, 8 km far from Mendoza city).The latter is the oldest one since its title deed dates from 1826, and it is a symbol of the viticulture and the economic evolution of the province. The founder of the company is Don Benito González Milleiro who began to work on this land at the beginning of the XIX century. Viticulture and viniculture were then important activities, but it was not until l840 that they became the main business of the family. In l856 their first winery was built in Panquegua and nowadays it is the oldest one in thecountry. At that time the company was ruled by Don Carlos González Pinto, Don Benito’s son. He was aware of the fact that the quality of the grapes influences directly the final quality of wines, so he planted in Panquegua the first Malbec vines brought from France following the advice of an expert engineer, Mr Pouget. In 1896 the construction of the winery was continued, with similar characteristics to the |
original building. Carlos Gonzalez Pinto hired Mr. Tito Soldati, an Italian oenologist graduated from Conegliano School in Italy, in order to improve the quality of the wines. Don Carlos’ project was continued by his son, Don Carlos González Videla. He took advantage of the railroad, a new means of transport that connected Mendoza with the world, and brought selected European vines to improve the local ones. In 1906 new premises were built in the winery with imported construction materials. In this building the best oak barrels from Nancy, France were placed. The winery is an architectural beauty, and it shelters the tanks and barrels imported by Carlos Gonzalez Videla as well as the bottle aging sector. Carlos Gonzalez Videla’s search for quality was rewarded in many exhibitions with award winning wines, obtaining prizes such as a Golden Medal in the Rome Exhibition of 1913, an Honours Diploma in the International Exhibition of Genoa in 1915, a Golden Medal in San Pablo, at the International Exhibition organized for the Century of the Brazilian Independence in 1927, etc. The activities of the winery were continued in a very conservative way by his daughter, Doña Florencia Fanny González and his son in law, Don Alfredo Curth.
Nowadays, Doña Florencia Curth González de Cavanagh who is the director of the company along with her son and daughters, run a traditional business, which they have inherited from their forefathers. Florencia Curth Gonzalez de Cavanagh is very proud of being the owner of the oldest winery in Argentina and of running the same family activity after five generations. Viñedos y Bodegas Carlos Gonzalez Videla S.A. has recently purchased stainless steel tanks and casks and state-of-the art technology for the production of high quality red wines.
The grapes used to make the wine produced by Viñedos y Bodegas Carlos González Videla S.A. come from vineyards distributed in two farms, one is located in Panquegua (Las Heras, Mendoza) and the other one in Tromel (Rivadavia, Mendoza) both lands produce fine grapes, fruits and olives.
