Freixenet lleva más de una década instalada en Argentina, lo que le ha permitido tener un conocimiento profundo no sólo del mercado de vinos argentino sino del potencial de la vitivinicultura de Mendoza. Por esta razón, en 2003 y en Tupungato (Alto Valle de Uco) decidió implantar su primer viñedo de 371 has. en tierra argentina, a 1.300 metros sobre el nivel del mar, en la falda de los Andes. En ese mismo año, Freixenet lanzó su primer vino argentino con la marca Viento Sur. "Comenzamos nuestros vinos desde el viñedo," su principal valor. La afortunada combinación de viejas vides, suelo y clima proporcionan la fuente para hacer estos excepcionales varietales. Nuestra vinificación permite realzar el carácter complejo y exquisito de la fruta. Estos vinos podrían ser envejecidos en barricas de roble, pero en esta primera etapa deseamos preservar todas las características de la uva y de la tierra en donde crecen los viñedos. Por esta razón el vino se trata y se embotella joven.

El "Viento del Sur" es un viento especial, y como nuestro vino se forma cerca del fin del mundo, en una zona todavía percibida como inmaculada, inexplorada. Un viento con carácter fuerte e intenso. En estas tierras, un viento que viene del sur es de buen augurio. Aires de bonanza, que marcan el inicio de la primavera y el buen tiempo.

Freixenet has been here in Argentina for more than a decade, and therefore it has a really deep knowledge not only of the argentine wine market but also of Mendoza´ s wine making potential. For this reason , the Freixenet´s first 317 has. of vines were planted here in Argentina in 2003 in Tupungato (Alto Valle de Uco), situated at 4,265 feetasl. at the foot of the Andes. That year, Freixenet launched its first argentine wine named Viento Sur. "We start making our wines in the vineyards". This is the most valuable aspect of Viento Sur. The

 privileged combination of old vines, soil and climate provides the grape with enough elements to make these exceptional varietals. These complex and exquisite features of the fruit are further enhanced in the winemaking process. These wines could perfectly be aged in oak barrels but the aim is to preserve all characteristics and the nuances of the grapes and the land where the vineyards are grown. For this reason this young wine is barely treated and is bottled for the enjoyment of all wine lovers. Viento Sur (Southern wind) is a special wind, with strong and intense character, which is formed near the end of the world, as our wine, in a zone that still remains immaculate, unexplored. In these lands, a wind that comes from the south is always a sign of good augury. It brings prosperity and indicates the beginning of the Spring and the good weather.
