Carmine Granata, fundador de la firma, nació en Chieti, Italia, en el año 1897 y llegó, junto con otros miles de inmigrantes a la Argentina, en 1922. Movido por su espíritu emprendedor, recorrió varias provincias argentinas hasta que finalmente decidió radicarse en Mendoza, donde hacia el año 1930, se inició en la industria vitivinícola en la zona de Mayor Drummond, elaborando vinos con la marca El Importador. Simultáneamente, se asoció a distintos productores y bodegueros del medio, para elaborar vinos a terceros.
Junto a su esposa e hijos, José y Nicolás, también llegados desde Italia, y al enorme esfuerzo dedicado a su empresa, años más tarde logró comprar la bodega ubicada en calles Alberti y Serpa de Mayor Drummond, la cual tiene una capacidad de 80.000 hectolitros. Allí comenzó a elaborar y fraccionar vinos finos que empezaron a distinguir la marca; se utilizaron uvas propias de las variedades Malbec, Semillón y Pinot Negro, procedentes de las zonas de Luján de

Cuyo, Maipú y Guaymallén. Hoy, sus descendientes continúan el trabajo original de su fundador, elaborando vinos finos de calidad, introduciendo modernas técnicas de vinificación, cuyo resultado se ve en los numerosos premios obtenidos en concursos internacionales. Todas las actividades relacionadas a la conservación, mantenimiento y calidad del producto son realizadas con el cuidado y respeto que merece un producto tan noble como el vino.

There he started elaborating and bottling fine wines with his own Malbec, Semillón and Pinot Noir grapes from Luján de Cuyo, Maipú and Guaymallén. The brand started to become well known.
