Goyenechea was founded in 1868 by Santiago and Narciso Goyenechea, Spanish Basque brothers. Towards 1905 the winery was built and the first vineyards were planted in Villa Atuel (San Rafael). In 1965 the fourth generation, now of Argentine birth, joined the company. At that moment, the activity began to bottle of fine wines. The winery developed the Aberdeen-Angus brand, for the association of breeders of this famous line of cattle. Simultaneously, exports to the United States and Paraguay began, and were followed by others to American and European countries. The domestic and international distribution of Aberdeen-Angus was entirely done by Goyenechea. In 1993 Goyenechea was one of the founders of the Council of Controlled Denomination of Origin San Rafael, reputedly the first Argentine D.O.C. Goyenechea is the first South American winery to export an “appellation contrôlee” wine, the 1993 Chardonnay. A year later the relationship with Aberdeen-Angus finished and the company started to sell exclusively its own "Goyenechea" brands in the domestic and international markets. In 1998 the fifth generation of the family entered the company. It was transformed into a joint-stock company. Today Goyenechea is one of the oldest established, independent, family-owned wineries in Argentina.

Goyenechea fue fundada en el año 1868 por los hermanos Santiago y Narciso Goyenechea. Hacia 1905 se construyó la bodega y se plantaron los primeros viñedos en Villa Atuel (San Rafael). En 1965 ingresó a la empresa la cuarta generación -argentina- y la actividad se desplazó exclusivamente hacia el vino fino embotellado. La bodega desarrolló la marca Aberdeen-Angus, para la asociación de criadores de ganado de dicha raza. A la vez se iniciaron las exportaciones, comenzando con Estados Unidos y Paraguay, y siguiendo con otros países americanos y europeos. La distribución interna y externa fue realizada enteramente por Goyenechea. En 1993 la bodega fundó e integró el primer Consejo de Denominación de Origen Controlada (San Rafael) de la Argentina y fue la primera bodega americana en exportar un vino con D.O.C.: el Chardonnay de ese año. Un año más tarde, se terminó la relación con la Asociación Aberdeen-Angus y la firma pasó a vender exclusivamente su propia marca "Goyenechea" en el mercado argentino e internacional. Finalmente, en 1998 ingresó la quinta generación familiar y la empresa se transformó en Sociedad Anónima. Hoy en día, es una de las bodegas independientes y familiares más antiguas de la Argentina.
