Bodegas Balbi is located in the city of San Rafael, at 37° 4’ south latitude, 240 Km. to the south of Mendoza City. The adequate altitude and the excellent weather of San Rafael offers perfect conditions for high-quality grape growing.
Located at the foot of The Andes, the area is irrigated with the pristine waters from thawed snow, and benefits on excellent conditions of healthiness and purity.
San Rafael has low humidity, great luminosity and a big thermic amplitude with warm days and cool nights. This environment is especially suitable for a long and well-balanced ripening process of the grapes.
Bodegas Balbi was founded in 1929 by Don Juan Balbi, who developed a successful family-owned business. Its wines quickly became popular and were recognized in the domestic market.
In 1992, Allied Domecq purchased 100% of the property and began a significant investment plan focused on producing top quality still and sparkling wines, modernising both the winery and the vineyards with the state-of-the-art winemaking equipment, developing strong brands in the domestic and export markets.

Bodegas Balbi está localizada en la ciudad de San Rafael, a 37° 4’ latitud sur, y 240 Km al sur de la cuidad de Mendoza. La altitud adecuada y el excelente clima de San Rafael ofrecen las condiciones perfectas para el cultivo de uvas de la más alta calidad. Ubicada al pie de la cordillera de los Andes, el área es irrigada por las aguas cristalinas de deshielo, contando con excelentes condiciones de pureza. San Rafael presenta baja humedad, gran luminosidad y una importante amplitud térmica. Este ambiente resulta especialmente apto para el proceso de maduración y cosecha de uvas de alta calidad. Bodegas Balbi fue fundada en 1929 por Don Juan Balbi, quien desarrolló un próspero negocio familiar. Sus vinos fueron rápidamente reconocidos por su calidad, tornándose populares en el mercado argentino. En 1992, Allied Domecq compró el 100% de la propiedad y comenzó con un plan de inversiones para producir sólo vinos de alta calidad, modernizar la bodega y los viñedos y desarrollar marcas sólidas para el mercado doméstico y de exportación.
